Don’t hurry, be happy! This leisurely walking tour takes in the rugged coastline, pristine waters and colourful wildflowers that make the Coral Coast a spectacular destination for an active outdoor adventure. There’s plenty of variety with hikes in national parks like Mt Lesueur and The Pinnacles (Nambung), a full day marine safari on Dirk Hartog Island and a day excursion to the Abrolhos Islands, and mixing it up with the beautiful coast lines at Monkey Mia. The only thing better than the landscapes and wildlife you’ll see are the conversations you’ll have along the way, whether it’s the insights from your leader or stories from the group.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Perth / Pinnacles / Jurien Bay
Your adventure begins in Perth (Boorloo in the language of the local Whadjuk Nyoongar people, who are the traditional owners of the land on which Perth is now located). It’s an early morning departure for the drive to The Pinnacles (Nambung National Park), home of the Jambinu people, where natural limestone pillars tower above the sand to create an otherworldly landscape. After a stroll through the limestone ‘forest’, you’ll drive to Lesueur National Park for the first hike of the trip. With a few ascents to keep things interesting, this loop walk on Amangu Country is widely regarded as one of the best ways to take in the colour and spectacle of Western Australia’s wildflowers in bloom. After the walk, it’s a short drive to Jurien Bay and your comfortable accommodation for the night. Get to know your group a little better and perhaps raise a glass during dinner at a typical country pub. Meals: Lunch,Dinner

Physical preparation

The itinerary has been designed to be very achievable to those of reasonable fitness. A positive mental attitude is most important. If you focus on the scenery, the company and the moment, not on the kilometres, then you find yourself reaching your destination with little problem. If you have done some training prior to the walk you will enjoy it all the more. The best way to prepare physically for the trip is to walk, walk and walk some more - preferably on rocky surfaces and over a variety of terrain. Try to walk frequently. Even walking around your suburb will get you walk-fit. By the start of the tour you should be able to comfortably walk 10km. For instance, walking 3km four times a week, and 5km once a week, is a great help. We know that this type of preparation is difficult to fit into a busy schedule. If you don’t have the time to do long walks, we recommend doing regular stair walking sessions. If you’re doing short training sessions, make sure you get yourself puffed and sweaty. Otherwise you won’t benefit from your efforts. And start walking in the shoes you will wear on the walk now!
